La città è Genova, il quartiere è Cornigliano, storico distretto operaio dove una volta sorgevano gli altiforni del' Ilva, chiusi nel 2002 in seguito alle lotte sociali dei cittadini per il loro impatto sulla salute pubblica. Quartiere Propaganda è un progetto che si pone trasversalmente tra il documentario e il video d’arte.
Raccontare il presente del quartiere attraverso la sua storia e la documentazione delle sue recenti trasformazioni, come i cittadini si sono inventati la vita e il lavoro dopo il fallimento della politica industriale imposta dall'alto.
La piattaforma concettuale dell’intero progetto si è basata su un forte coinvolgimento del territorio attraverso l’interazione con i gli spazi, le persone, l’associazionismo. Sono proprio gli abitanti del quartiere a leggere brani tratti da romanzi, libri di poesie, ricettari di cucina, canzoni scritte da loro, cronache o qualsiasi altra cosa scritta significativa e identitaria rispetto alla loro storia personale. Lo hanno fatto nelle strade, in edifici, zone verdi o industriali tra le più rappresentative del quartiere stesso, come testimoni di un luogo contemporaneo dall’identità in continua trasformazione.Questa è la storia di una scelta popolare: Genova prima di Taranto ha scelto di non cedere al ricatto lavoro contro salute, di non barattare il proprio futuro in cambio di un profitto promesso ma mai ridistribuito equamente.
Il film è un viaggio all’interno del quartiere,attraverso i luoghi e le persone, un quartiere che si racconta e per far questo diventa Quartiere Propaganda.

The
city is Genoa, the district is Cornigliano, an historic workers
district where in the past the Ilva’s blast furnaces rose up. These
were switched off in 2002 as a consequence of the citizens’ social
conflicts over the blast furnaces’ impact on public health.
Propaganda
District
is a project across two different art forms, documentary and video
art.
To
tell the present of the district through its story and its recent
transformations. To talk about its people and the capability to
create life and work after the failure of the industrial politic
imposed from on high.
The
conceptual platform of the entire project is based on a strong
involvement of the area, thanks to the interaction with places,
people and associations. The district’s residents actually read
pieces of romances, poem books, recipe books, songs, chronicles and
releases or any other written text relevant for their personal story.
They did it in the most representative streets, buildings, green or
industrial areas of the district itself, as witnesses of a
contemporary environment constantly changing.
This
is the story of a working-class choice: before Taranto, Genoa didn’t
give up to the choice between work and health. The city won’t swap
its future with a promised profit, which has never been fairly
distributed.
The
movie is a journey inside the district, through places and people.
The district describes itself, becoming Propaganda
District.
